Plattsburg NY always had a special spot in my heart. . As a very young CAP cadet I was fortunate enough to spend two weeks at the former SAC base there and watch the “swing wing” FB-111 s do touch-and-go exercises and I also fired my first M16 there. The word awesome is thrown around liberally these days but if you ever saw and heard an FB-111 light up its afterburners as it thunders off into the night sky while the ground and air were still shaking… We also had a chance to visit with the pilots who lived in bunkers 24/7 on a rotating basis, and to us they were bigger than rocks stars.
My God how wonderful our country was then.
What kid can ever forget that and especially what immigrant kid? Years later at boot camp I had a friend form Plattsburg who always complained that people form down state came up to hunt and the fools shot his cows. Here is the tea party of all those wonderful folks of Plattsburg NY.
