The left just can’t help it, they seem to be genetically programmed to view every single event in the prism that either does or does not benefit their mad quest for power. The good of the country seems to be as foreign to them as basic human decency. It took all of 2 seconds after the announcement of the killing of Osama bin Laden for the left to experience collective orgasmic throes at the thought of what this will do to Obama’s reelection potential.
From “news” anchors to the geriatric leftist gaggle of The View, the left’s mouthpieces were foaming at the prospect of a landslide Obama victory on the backs of the Navy SEALs who carried out the mission to kill Osama. In fact some even waxed that maybe we should skip the elections altogether. Now we all know that “skipping” elections is the left’s wet dream but so rare are the occasions when we actually hear them articulate this fantasy of theirs on national television- yesterday was such an occasion. Good thing they weren’t politicizing this. Good thing that unlike Bush landing on the aircraft carrier Obama and the left are way above that. ( Attention leftists who are reading this, this was meant to be sarcastic)
To be fair the left’s talking heads took their cue directly from their leader. Anyone who watched and listened to Obama announcing the success of the mission would be wondering when exactly did Obama have time to change from his tactical BDUs to his suit and tie and when exactly did he have time to wash the camo off his face and fly back to Washington DC.
W e know a few other things about the left namely that they are usually dead wrong. Fortunately this appears to be just such an occasion. Far from getting the poll bounce that would catapult Obama to the sainthood that the left media believes he deserves, the much hoped for poll bounce failed to materialize. Some very very generous polls are showing him to be up nine points in the wake of the bin Laden killing, other polls are giving him the grand one-point bounce. The proverbial dead cat would die of shame after seeing such a “bounce”
This fiasco, no not the killing of Osama bin Laden, but rather the shameless and disgusting reaction of the left wing media following the announcement of the mission, has all the makings of the disaster that befell the Democrats after the Wellstone Memorial. They always overshoot and overplay their hand and always manage to turn whatever goodwill the American people would have for them into sheer disgust at their partisan displays.
The road to the election is a long one and there will be many surprises between now and then. By their action and behavior the left and Obama have managed to turn what might have been a moderate victory into something which most of the country deems worthy of contempt.
